Dumfries was recently voted the most desirable place to stay in Great Britain. The town is a town steeped in history and of coarse our most famous resident was the poet Robert Burns. Dumfries is considered by many people to be the cultural capital of south west Scotland and is an essential part of a genuine Scottish experience. Many visitors to Dumfries come simply to relax and get away from the stress and hassel of modern life. You can take time out to visit the many Ancient Castles, Gardens, Museums and Historic sites all within easy reach of the hotel. Poet Robert Burns spent his last years of his life in Dumfries and composed many of his famous works there, inspired by the beautiful scenery and the townsfolk.
Burns House, now a place of pilgrimage for Burns enthusiasts from around the world has retained much of its eighteenth century character and contains many relics of the poet. There is a chair in which he wrote his last poems, many original letters and manuscripts and the famous Kilmarnock and Edinburgh editions of his work. The award winning Robert Burns Centre is well worth a visit. It tells the story of the connections between Robert Burns and the town of Dumfries. The well researched exhibition is illuminated by many original documents and relics of the poet. There is a fascinating scale model of Dumfries in the 70's and a haunting audio visual presentation as well as bookshops, cafe gallery and facilities for the disabled. Motorcycling
